Wall Monitoring

LEARN MORE ABOUT US

Structural Engineering

Party wall monitoring is a popular application. A party wall is a wall that stands astride the boundary of land belonging to two (or more) different owners. Examples include walls separating terraced or semi-detached houses or walls that form the boundary between two gardens, known as a “party fence wall”.

Another type of party wall is a wall that stands wholly on one owner’s land, but is used by two (or more) owners to separate their buildings. Examples include where one neighbour has a structure that leans against a wall that is owned by the other neighbour. Only the part of the wall that is enclosed by the lean-to is a Party Wall.

Either way when doing works on a party wall, tracking wall movement can be key to ensuring neighbourly relations remain on track.

Our reports are monitored in real time by our qualified structural engineers.

Wall monitoring around excavations

Due to our frequent work with basements and excavations, we often fit wall monitoring devices on properties adjacent to or within close proximity to the dig.

This is for the safety of all parties. The sudden nature of an excavated wall collapse requires detailed monitoring to avert disaster.

Wall monitoring data enables operations to gain a better understanding of how materials behave during excavation.

Once the monitoring devices are installed, they will serve data throughout the course of the works usually with varied frequency and will remain in place for a number of weeks once the construction work is complete.
